The argument made by the author Robert Sklar in his book Movie-Made America has to do with the impact that American movies have had on the country's culture and society as a whole. Sklar says this by stating that, “American movies, through much of their span, have altered or challenged many of the values and doctrines of powerful social and cultural forces in American society, providing alternative ways of understanding the world.”
Overall, yes having so many TV shows to choose from is making our nation and our families more divided, because it also came along with new technology which gave people a way to watch TV where and whenever they want to. Negative Sensationalism Throughout the week, talk shows such as Maury and Jerry Springer are displayed on our TV screens. Whether or not a person is a vigorous viewer, the storyline of the show comes up in a conversation at least once a week. Talk shows regularly take a look into the life choices of a certain person or group of people. In the text “In Defense of Talk Shows”, Barbara Ehrenreich raises the question of the moral conflicts presented in talk shows and presents the idea that they are an exploitation of lower class people.
Since the television shows make influences on people, their values conveyed in the programs also impact social morality. If the directors of television shows only focus on the entertaining functions of television programs to make profits, the public’s morality will have danger to be lowered
A show that involves children is mainly going to revolve around the children’s lives rather than the parent’s lives. One example would be Dance Moms. Anyone that has seen this show knows that it is completely insane. The parents on this show are so overly confident about their children. If their child does not get a solo, they suddenly go crazy and start calling out and badmouthing everyone and anyone even if the child that got the solo is an excellent dancer and deserved it.

Not only are films entertaining, but they can have a crucial impact on society. Films can educate one's life by shining light on the political issues in society and struggles individuals face on a daily basis. A film that has a strong dialogue has the ability to open the audience's eyes to look at the world in a different perspective. The film American Son will take the audience on an emotional rollercoaster and feel an intense amount of sadness. The film demonstrates diversity, stereotypes, and finding one's identity.
I chose to rewatch a film for my observation. The film I watched was “Fight Club”. This film is an example of the complete opposite of US cultural values. It focuses on destroying material comfort and individuality. The narrator who was once a man driven by material possessions is completely changed by Tyler Durden a man who is fuelled by chaos.
This makes me wonder, as a filmmaker, why are so many people in US are unhappy? Especially people in middle class who are more wealthy than %98 of the world? This is a complex question, thus have many answers rather than one major one. I believe that, however, media plays a big part of it. As a new generation we are molded by movies.
Everyone has their own idea of the American Dream. Although everyone’s idea of the American Dream is similar, media has done a very good job at altering our ideas of that dream. The dream used to be to work hard and get a good job that you enjoy and to make good money, now however, the dream is to have to latest and best technology, make a lot of money but not take any pride in their job, and become famous and known from all of the stuff that you own. Although this may seem appealing, America’s media has distorted the people’s view on the American Dream.
People also have this image of the American dream as a white Pickett fence, a dog, and two children with a nice house and two cars in the driveway nice job and a stay at home wife, when that is not what it is at all. When people talk about how they want that when they get to America they will get disappointed because what they pictured and wanted America to be and what the media paints it to be is not what it is. Sometimes it feels like the media takes over the American dream more and more and it becomes more materialistic every day. For the Americans that live here it becomes even more harder to achieve because the pricing of housing is only getting higher and seems like the paychecks are just enough anymore. It feels like once you feel like you got it in your hands it then

When one watches a movie, the experience is not life changing no matter how thrilling the experience was. It is not engraved into the brain as it is only a temporary adrenaline rush. When watching a movie, one feels as though one is watching the story from outside and not truly experiencing it through the main character. In addition, movies are often two hours long. If a movie was based on a book, which it often is, there would not be enough time to include minor details.
