80/20: Why the government should invest more in higher education. Higher education is sought and wanted for new generations by the government : it has gone through many modifications that made it further more accessible to lower class students such as the creation of federal student aid thus providing that all students should have a chance to access higher education and has been credited for materialistic and non-materialist benefits to a nation's economy and growth. Additionally, individuals benefit from education by higher pay rates as well as higher chances of social involvement and mobility.
However, with higher education being sought after, the issue on how to fund for it has been the topic of important debates. Who should pay the biggest share ? Individuals such as the students and their families or the state and the nation's government ?In relationship to an ever so increasing global competition between countries and a higher demand imposed by an economic recession, the following split proposes that the government and its related states can at the minimum fund 80% of the total cost of education, leaving the individual with 20% of the rest of the cost to bear.

While this argument may prove valid in the case of Scotland (Wolf, The Economist, 2011), it cannot be entirely attributed to the United States as students are already facing major financial hardships and issues that cripple American students by making them carry 2/3 of the expenses of their educational cost (Breneman, The Economist,
