Do you think there’s too much focus on sports in America? Well if you do you're not alone if anything you're far from it. You may or may not be a sports fan but debates and arguments exist today on if sports are too much of a focus in America or not. People also bond over sports way more than anything else. According to the text Fans spent over 214 million minutes w/NFL Social content. (“Anderson” para 5) People talk about sports for hours and it could ruin their schedule if they have something major to do that day.
Sports can be dangerous because kids and even adults can break bones by playing sports like football,soccer,baseball,and hockey. “On average for every 1,000 times a student played boy’s football in practice or in competition, he was injured 4.36 times. The data is part of the U.S High School. Sports-Related Injury Surveillance Study.” (“Analyze” para 2) When kids or even adults play sports the injury rates are very high and you can get hurt playing any sport at any age.
Time spent on social media because of sports has gone up over the years. Fans spent over 214 million minutes with NFL Social content, 78 million engagements,618 million views. (“Anderson” para 6) These numbers are the time spent on just one sport. This is the time frame that people use just for the NFL.That's a lot of time just spent on football. Imagine the time spent on every sport like soccer,baseball,hockey,basketball,rugby.The amount of time would be endless.What could people be doing with all that time? They may think people are not spending so much time on social media because of sports. Others think this way because back then when technology wasn’t around people only had rare autograph signings they couldn’t watch the games, and buying tickets didn’t exist at that time period. The problem with this argument is that an article states “Not all that long ago,being a diehard football fan meant WATCHING every game but only the games that were nationally televised because the Sunday Ticket Zone and Red Zone didn’t exist.” This piece of text evidence shows and proves to people that they could still watch the televised games. Yes, tickets didn’t exist but you could still watch the games. They also argued that all they would have back then was rare autographed sports cards, but they could buy magazines and keep those so they could also have the access to read about sports too which is more than just having a rare autograph sports
