Can you believe a book where a woman is raped, racial slurs are used a multitude of times and a man is gunned down trying to gain his freedom? To kill a mocking bird should not be taught in schools because of its heavy topics, and its use of multiple racial slurs as well as glorifying this culture even if it is unintentionally. Because of its use of extremely heavy topics to kill a mocking bird, it should not be taught in schools. It has topics of rape and murder which children should not be hearing and normalizing it by putting it in a mostly lighthearted book. It uses topics such as rape and false accusations of rape as well as murder. To Kill A Mocking Bird There is a clear display of child abuse as stated by Robin, a teacher in the language arts classroom, states “Uncle Jack, Calpurnia, Mrs. Duboise, and Bob Ewell abuse children in To Kill A Mockingbird.
