Egg Horror poem Laurel Winter What is life worth if all a egg is doing is sitting jostled in the cold and dark egg carton that is lying in the refrigerator waiting to be eaten. Watching one by one as your peers vanish into the kitchen. Laurel Winter uses personification, metaphor, figurative language, point of view and descriptive imagery. First the poem is told from the eggs point of view. The meaning of point view is to show who is telling the story. In this poem the eggs are telling the story. The eggs are personified as to act as humans would. “Small white afraid of heights whispering in the cold,dark carton to the rest of the dozen. (10-11) the author uses onomatopoeia to give the voices and movement of the eggs to seem as though they are humans. This poem held my attention from beginning to the end through the use of figurative language. The meaning of figurative language is a meaning that is different from literal interpretation. The egg horror poem is a good poem to relate to because the author uses descriptive imagery as well. “ they hear the sounds of deadly mixer blades whirring”. (40-41) the definition of descriptive imagery is something that appeals to the five senses sight,sound,touch,smell and taste. The eggs often make themselves unattractive by making small cracks in there shells so they are not chosen. The eggs have nightmares of being used for breakfast which is what they fear most of all.
