Frankenstein Out of the multiple books that were read this semester in the honors 102 class the one that I found to be the most enjoyable and enlightening was Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The book has a thrilling story line that is told masterfully and reveals several themes throughout the novel that are quite interesting. These themes include the dangerousness of knowledge and science, the beauty of nature, and how ignorance affects people as shown through Frankenstein’s monster. I believe the fact that this book is my favorite book of the semester reveals that I enjoy books that contain themes related to science and nature, and also books that deal with mankind’s existential dilemmas. The storyline of this book is masterfully written. Although the story was obviously written in the 1800’s the book is still easily readable and understandable. By always describing every single aspect of the surrounding scenery Shelley incorporates a theme of nature into her work. She also examines how this nature affects the characters and how they interact with it. This effect ranges from the harsh unforgiving environment that the monster lives in after his conception, to the nicer gentler environment of Victor’s home. The stark contrast of these two environments shows how the monster could become what he is while also revealing how Victor’s personality developed. Shelley also likes to explore themes of science very realistically. In the book she clearly reveals Victor’s scientific thought process and how he received the knowledge that is necessary to create life. This enormous amount of scientific accuracy is something that I personally enjoy about the book, which I believe reveals my affinity for science and its various applications. It also could possibly reveal that I am a person who prefers the truth and
