ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Indian Railways (IR) is the world’s 4th largest railway network, carrying over 23 million passengers daily. It has recently joined the 1000 million tonne club i.e. it has an annual freight loading of over 1000 million tonnes. It has a network which is more than one and a half times the circumference of the earth. It is the seventh largest employer in the world with an employee strength of over 1.3 million people. Despite various constraints, this organisation has been working unceasingly since 1951 and consistently generating revenue for the government of India. It is an integral part of every Indian’s being and is one of the pillars of the nation.

ORGANISATIONAL EXCELLENCE

IR enjoys monopoly in the rail transport sector in India and has still been able to deliver sustainable high achievement, making it a typical example of ‘Institutionalized Organisation Excellence’. This has been possible due to high level of institutionalised management practises and commitment of its employees towards delivering excellence. Continually keeping track of customer requirements and keeping pace with technological advancements has been the trademark of the organisation. IR is dedicated towards developing the Indian society by providing an affordable and efficient mode of transportation for its people.
