If his rivals could create a different god, one that favored themselves instead of Moses and was more palatable for the people, they could now become the chosen leader, and cast out Moses. This would allow them to gain control of a vast number of people, that now that Moses has done the extremely difficult work of
The Jewish Bible portrayed Cyrus as a prophet, it is believed that he was doing god’s tasks. One of those tasks being him (Cyrus) freeing the Jews from captivity in Babylon. The second task was to rebuild all their temples and restore their cults. The oldest version of the Bible called the “ dead sea scrolls” written in 4th century BC was discovered in 1946 - 1956.
It was evidenced sublimely in the refusal of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to obey the laws of Nebuchadnezzar, on the ground that a higher moral was at stake. ”(326) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three Hebrew men that were condemned after refusing to worship King Nebuchadnezzar as their idol. Instead, they chose to obey God’s
It does not make sense that an omnipotent God would allow His people to be burned, gassed, and beat if God is to be a merciful person.
This eye-opening event motivated King Josiah to command Hilkiah and a few others to inquire of the Lord concerning the words of the Law. Yahweh spoke through a prophetess, Huldah, and told the people to tell Josiah that
In ancient times there was a man named Abraham. He was a humble sheepherder who lived in Ur, Mesopotamia. Although Mesopotamia believed in many gods, Abraham believed in one. He and god made a covenant, or a religious agreement, that God would protect him and his people while Abraham leads the people to the “promised land.” He got together a group of Mesopotamians and went to Canaan, “the promised land.”
Judges 4 “She summoned Barak. and said to him, “Hasn’t the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, deploy the troops on Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men.? Then I will lure Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, his chariots, and his infantry. to fight against you, and I will hand him over to you.’” vs 6-7. The Israelites “again did evil in the sight of the LORD”.
The entirety of the book of Judges follows a cyclical pattern. The pattern is as follows: The Israelites start sinning and turning away from God then God appoints a new judge to show the people who the real God is and finally the people repent and ask God for forgiveness and there is peace and prosperity throughout Israel. This whole book is trying to show that without a good leader no nation can prosper. They will just become corrupt and violent. Kaminsky and Lohr write, "Israelite idolatry, theft, rape, murder, and intertribal warfare, indicate that Israel's lack of good leadership results in violence, chaos, and possible extinction, showing that infidelity to God is mirrored in the infidelity and treachery various Israelites display toward each other" (Kaminsky p. 120).
In the Bible as in Literature, though Moses’ belief in God is inconsistent at times, his flourishing faith is able to give him strength in becoming the leader that he now is, and having the persistence and durability to save the Israelites. Without God’s guidance and knowledge, Moses’ courage would be nonexistent. God approaches Moses, when he is in need, pleading for Moses to advise the Israelites into safety, unfortunately Moses is first low in determination for himself. In order to officially escape the Israelites out of Egypt, he needs God’s overpowering spirit to bring down destructive plagues on the vile Egyptians. At the final exit to freedom, Moses is at a dead-end, and only one man has the ability to help Moses split the waters, solely God himself.

Despite being appointed as God’s chosen liberator of the Israelites, Moses is a person incapable of effectively leading his people. Moses’s lack of charisma, confidence, and determination are his greatest flaws as a leader which are demonstrated when he initially fails to stop his fellow Hebrews from fighting. His critical flaws as a leader initiates a chain of failures that will befall the Israelites during their journey and their eventual punishment of never reaching the Promised Land. One of Moses’s greatest shortcomings as a leader is his lack of charisma. He is unable to make the people naturally follow him and his words.
God made covenants with the Jewish people. The first covenant was between God and Abraham. God chose Abraham to be the father of a group of people that would be special to God.
