F Scott Fitzgerald was an influential and creative writer who was best known for his work based on the 1920s era, His life was filled with damaging events, but he used that to write his stories and now he is one of the greatest writers in history. Born on September 24th 1896 in St, Paul Minnesota. His mother, Mary McQuillan worked in the grocery business and his father, Edward Fitzgerald, worked in the furniture business. Growing up Fitzgerald’s family was not very wealthy but shortly after the death of his grandfather they inherited the rest of the money that his grandparent had because of the grocery business. He achieved a lot during his life. Some of the books he has written include: This Side of Paradise, which was an autobiography about money and greed, The Beautiful Damned, which was a story based on a troubled marriage, and Tender as Night, about a psychiatrist who was destroyed by his wealthy wife (Witkoski). Along with these books he has also written short stories and screenplays (History.com). The majority of his writings connect with life in some way that was important to him that the things he was writing meant something (Magnum). Almost all of his work was based in The Jazz age era, mostly because he knew a lot about it and it fascinated him (Mizener).Fitzgerald was also a very outspoken person he said what he wanted to say without anyone trying to censor him (Magnum) he once said “You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you have something to say” (King) and he lived up to that quote. He knew he was a good writer, he may not have been the best in school but since he was a child he knew he was a good writer and that he would do big things(Writer of the Jazz Age pg. 8-36). There were a few things about his personality that aided him in his writings. For example, he had a very strong romantic imagination, he loved the idea of romance and the effect that it had on people (Mizener). Like I mentioned before he had a love for the twenties which inspired the big parties and people of such wealth. He liked to be very adventurous and creative everything had to be out of the ordinary(Writer of the Jazz Age pg. 8-36). On the other hand, he was also was very obsessive he liked keeping very specific records of his life, he wrote down everything that he bought or did and how he handled his money(History.com).
