He believed he could make himself the ideal man for her through wealth and popularity. Gatsby was willing to go to great lengths to win her love. He was willing to risk everything for her to return her love to him. Gatsby thought he could impress Daisy enough with a lifestyle that would be worth leaving Tom and being with him. Daisy was conflicted because she loved both men, and she couldn’t choose between them. Gatsby never gave up on Daisy and here's some evidence, Gatsby idolizes his past with Daisy, He had hope for the future with her, and his obsession with her; believing she was perfect. That's why he never gave up on her, he was obsessed and couldn't imagine anyone better that's why he never gave up on her. “There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams-not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion.”(Fitzgerald 95) This quote shows how much Gatsby glorified Daisy, and how Daisy could live up to this unrealistic image that Gatsby had created in his head. Gatsby believed Daisy was perfect in every way, and an angel. But in reality, she was far from that. “He stretched out his arms towards the dark water in a curious way. involuntarily I glanced seaward and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of the dock.” (Fitzgerald 21) This green light is mentioned several times throughout the book.
