Guy Montag a firefighter but instead he starts the fires. In the book Fahrenheit 451, Montag Mildred, and Beatty are impacted by the alienation. By looking at Montag, one can see he is lost which is important because he has to go to other people for help. Everyone around him was alienated from the real world and believe everything they hear.
The novel's main characters are victims of the violent nature of society. Although he has read many books, Chief Beatty remains a true believe in the benefits of controlled society. Montag is confused, attempting to do the right thing as a firefighter, but soon discovers the benefits of books and knowledge and danger of censorship and an oppressive, violent society. When Montag discovers that his wife, Millie, has turned him in as a criminal, and he is ordered to burn down his own house, the critical, violent confrontation between Montag and Beatty, in which Beatty is killed and his body burned. This is followed by a violent confrontation with the mechanical hound, in which Montag fights for his life and with a leg that feels like "a chunk
Finny ignores reality throughout the novel. He stays strong with his innocence and continues to act oblivious to the actions and events going on around him. On page 163, Finny says ¨When I heard that about Leper, then I knew that the war was real, this war and all the wars. If a war can drive someone crazy, then it's real all right. Oh I guess I always knew, but I didn't have to admit it.¨
Beatty who is a negative person influences and convinces everyone around that burning is good. Mean and bitter people in the world come with very similar qualities, such as negativity, big egos, are hypocrites ect. Which Captain Beatty possesses in the book Fahrenheit 451. He is someone who has read books before but describes to his men that they are evil and not good for anyone or anything. Which is the firefighters only and important job, to burn books which is consider as “helping the people”.
“...for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.” as said by Captain Beatty in Fahrenheit 451. In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, Captain Beatty is sought out to be the antagonist in the dystopian society in which he lives in. His views on happiness in the society being everyone is made equal, not given equal opportunities as shown in the quote cited above.
In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, the citizens of a corrupt United States are controlled by the government. Books and novels have been prohibited because they contain ideas and knowledge which allow the citizens to think. The government does not approve of thinking so the books and novels get burned by firemen. Instead of reading novels, the people can only watch television and read comics and sex magazines.
1. Motivation and Values- In the beginning Montag's goals are simply to go to work and make enough money to buy the things his wife, Mildred, likes. However, after Montag meets Clarisse, his goals differ. His goal now, is to find out the meaning of life, to better understand who he is as a person, and freedom to think as an individual.
In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, Montag, the main character, goes from loving his job to rethinking of his job. Montag came in mind that his job not only hurt him but also hurt society. He began to realize that he no longer enjoyed his job. Montag did not like the fact of knowing that his job was only hurting other people.

Guy Montag is a loyal man to his wife, Mildred, and his job working as a fireman. He is very happy with his work as he is doing the duty of his town. This made Montag feel like a part of society. One example on why Montag is an anti- hero is because he soon starts to realize that it’s time to change his society, but when his anger comes in play he realizes that he the best changes he made aren’t the best changes(page 71 ) “ They read the long afternoon through while the cold November rain fell from the sky upon the quiet house” The quote provides proof that Montag is starting to want to change his society because he is doing something that is illegal he is reading. In the beginning Montag was against reading books he was a member of the fire company that burned them. now he reading a book with millie and he is now starting to enjoy the books. Page 81) ‘Someone who may have been a friend was burned less than Twenty-four hours ago” This is making him change the society because he doesn’t think people should be burned for reading book.
