What do you think our lives would be like without books? In Fahrenheit 451 Montag lives in a society without books in the future, in a city in America where he is trying to bring books back and educate the younger generation. Our society and the society in Fahrenheit 451 are both similar and different in technology, family/marriage, and entertainment. To begin with the "dipple of Fahrenheit 451" and our society have both similarities and differences in technology in the wall TV's and toaster self butter and seashells. One way that the societies are similar is that both societies have advanced technology. For example, on page #16 it states. She was an expert at lip reading from ten years of apprenticeship at Seashell ear-thimbles." This is …show more content…

One way that the societies are similar is that both societies can send their child to school for a while and just leave them and put them next to a TV. For example, on pages 92 and 93, it states," I plunk the children in school 9 days out of ten." I put up with them when they come home three days a month; it's not bad at all, you heave then into the "parlor" and turn the switch." This is a similarity because in our society parents can just send their children to boarding school and never see them or, they can put them in front of a TV and not really care for them, which is a similarity in Fahrenheit 451 society because they do the same thing. However, the two societies are also different. On page #91, it states,""Anyway, Pete and I always say, no tears, nothing like that." It's our third marriage and we are independent. Be independent, we always say. He said, If I get killed off, you just go right ahead and don't cry, but get married again, and don't think of me. "This is different from our society because in our society marriages only usually happen once and if one dies then in our society we usually don't get remarried fast and usually mourn death and in Fahrenheit 451s society they get remarried fast and don't mourn …show more content…

The society of "dip Fahrenheit 451" and our society have both similarities and differences in entertainment. One way that the societies are similar is that both societies' entertainment is violent. For example, on page #90, it states,"A minute later, the White Cartoon Clowns chopped off each other's limbs to the accompaniment of immense incoming tides of laughter. Two minutes more and the room whipped out of town to the jet cars wildly circling an arena, bashing and backing up and bashing each other again." This is a similarity because in both societies their entertainment is violent. I know this because in our society our entertainment such as video games and television shows are violent because of things such as guns and murder and in Fahrenheit 451 society they have clowns getting their limbs chopped off for entertainment. However, the two societies are also different. On page #61, it states,"'The keys to the beetle are on the night table." I always like to drive fast when I feel that way. You get it up around ninety-five and you feel wonderful. Sometimes I drive all night and come back and you don't know it. It's fun out in the country. You hit rabbits, sometimes you hit dogs." This is different from our society because in our society we love dogs and animals and don't run them over for fun but in Fahrenheit 451's society they and Mildred run over animals for fun when they
