Rome was one of the greatest empires in the ancient world. It lasted for approximately 507 years. However, when it ended, there wasn’t a full cause. Some people say that it was because of the split in the empire, or that it was because of politics and other factors. According to some historians, The Western Roman Empire began to decline at the battle of Adrianople, and when emperor Valens was defeated (Mark, et al.). However, Rome’s political, military, and economic influences caused the Roman Empire to fall.
To have a strong empire, a strong political base would help provide support. Therefore, when the government started to fall apart, it wasn’t long until everything else fell apart too. “One of the main causes for the Fall of the Roman Empire was the Antagonism between the Senate and the Emperor” (Ltd.) This was a major influence on the fall of Rome. The Senate began to lose his power very quickly and was soon redeemed powerless. They were constantly at war with themselves, or to expand the empire. The empire was running out of soldiers to fight, so they made the barbarians they conquered help them fight (Ltd.) With all the fighting, they were barely given any training, which made it harder to fight. The final push of the fall of Rome was because of the invasion of the Huns and the Germans. Another military factor was the soldier's attitude. They weren’t loyal to the Roman Empire, which made it hard to get them to fight for their country. More and more people became Christian and began to leave Rome to spread its word. “Constant warfare required heavy military spending.” (Ltd.) This became an expensive factor, as they needed to pay for the equipment and other important necessities. This affected the economy, which also played a part in the fall of Rome.
