The entire reason for this party was to defend the king and all those close to him from it, but there is no escaping the disease. The text states, “His vesture-was dabbed in blood-and his brow, with all the features with all the feature of a face, was besprinkled with the scarlet horror” Poe, 425). The Red Death was a “walking corpse” looking figure that appeared out of nowhere during the course of the party; and how instantly makes his way toward the block room. All those who attended the shindig secretly feared the moving figure as it made its way to the room. The king did not stand for this so he planned to kill the figure, but yet the figure killed him.
In "The Masque of the Red Death," by Edgar Allan Poe, Prince Prospero's evolution from fear to bravery in his encounter with the Red Death, Poe captures Prospero's transition from initial fear to bravery or impulse, through irony, visual imagery, and foreshadowing. Initially, Prospero believes himself and his followers to be above the reach of the Red Death, he retreats into his abbey, fortifying its walls and hosting a masquerade ball as if he can run from the Red Death. All these and security were within. Without was the “Red Death.” This is ironic because the guests, who believe they can escape death by hiding in the abbey, ultimately meet their demise within its walls during what was supposed to be a festive event.
In “The Masque of the Red Death,” Poe describes the nasty symptoms of Ebola. Poe says, “There were sharp pains, and sudden dizziness, and then profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution. The scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victim, were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men.” The description of the pain and fatality of this disease makes the reader wince by just imagining the agony of the afflicted. Moreover, Poe pens the violent acts people inflict on each other.

Many people don’t see the value of little things in life until it’s too late. This idea is shown in the short story, “The Masque of the Red Death”, by Edgar Allan Poe where a terrible disease called the Red Death has struck the country. This gruesome and fatal disease has already killed off half of the kingdom. In an isolated castle there lives a prince with his other wealthy friends and they believe they can avoid this awful disease, but of course this isn’t possible. When the Red Death does appear the prince ends up killed.

In this short story, there is a terrible plague going around that is taking an abundant amount of lives. Prince Prospero and his guests seclude themselves inside his castle and throw a party; However, an uninvited guest will soon show up and crash their masquerade. Poe uses the ebony clock to illustrate that death cannot be eluded. Initially, Poe introduces the ebony clock as very dark and mysterious, much like himself.

I think they were imaging it because it never describes the person in the story. It just says a masked figure. “And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night.” I think the people in these stories both feel guilty, that’s why they are imagining stuff.
