Family Guy presents many traditional ideas along with many non-traditional ideas that help make the viewers more rounded in various topics. The traditional idea that Family Guy presents is the anti-abortion campaign. Abortion is considered a hot topic and controversial because the population's opinion is split. Family Guy presents viewers with alternatives to abortion and can help educate people on the choices that can be made. Family Guy also has episodes in which Jesus appears and is actively engaged in the plot. Family Guy being targeted to a more liberal audience, has the opportunity to give a more humor driven understanding of small aspects of religion. Carlin believes “Family Guy could prompt religious believers to think about their doctrines more, particularly: Gender of God, danger of creating god in human image” (Carlin 541). More active thinkers may begin to think deeply about their believes and prompt viewers to engage in a deeper understanding of their believes. Viewers may wonder more about their religious affiliations and begin to have epiphanies about the understanding of their lives. Carlin writes “Family Guy could prompt religious believers (both conservative and liberal) to view their beliefs from the outside” (Carlin 541). Carlin was commenting on how religion was a more traditional ideology and that new thoughts and actions could prompt for a theological revolution. A theological revolution could foster the beginning of numerous cultural customs and may even begin to develop a world with less violence and chaos. Seth Macfarlane, the creator of the show is famous for incorporating humor and comedy into Family Guy. Family Guy has been viewed as a negative influencing television show from the younger aged viewers. The average viewer is aged from 11-17 years old. Family Guy is known for its usage of profanity and politically incorrect language. Family Guy receives most of its negative reputation from using profanity and politically incorrect language in front of mainly children. Although Family Guy may have minimum negative influence the positive repercussions are far more influential. Seth Macfarlane has given the public many reasons to watch his hit animated television show Family Guy. The show has shown its willingness to present controversial topics in hope of viewers contributing to activism around the country. Family Guy presents issues such as the legalization of marijuana, more rights for the LGBT community and anti-abortion education. Family Guy advocated for the legalization of marijuana in many episodes and for many reasons. The viewers of family guy are generally young and across the United States young people are usually more acceptable of the legalization of marijuana. The LGBT community has been under extreme scrutiny, but recently has been receiving from various age groups including the younger aged population.
