Family gives everyone the love and support needed to have more meaning in life. Every family does not have to be connected by blood. Family can be created by caring strongly for one another. Ishmael Beah had a big family that consisted of his birth parents, two brothers and his friend Talloi. During the war, Ishmael was separated from his family.

When you think of family you might think of adults and their children, or kids who lost their parents but are still related to each other. The Outsiders by S.E Hinton tells otherwise. It shows that even if you are not related, you can still be family; you can still have love and affection for each other. In the book, there is a contradiction between the gang’s biological family and their “family”. There is connection shown between the greasers from the Socs in the blue Mustang to Johnny dying in the hospital not wanting to see his mother.
Family may not seem like a huge deal to some people and some generations, but there is not one simple definition of what family is. One can say that a family is a group of people that share a certain bond. During slavery, family meant everything, and family is all that the slaves had, unless their masters separated them because they knew family meant the world to the slaves. In the narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano, Equiano’s bond with his sister was exceedingly cherished. In the narrative of Harriet Jacobs, Jacobs’ children was all she had.
Compare and contrast the family values and traditions of three different cultures. How do the values, communication and spirituality resemble or differ from yours? The concept of family and kinship for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is to live within an extended family system. What this means is that they include distant relatives. Family is a fundamental part to an Aboriginal society because they are the ones that teach you how to live, how to interact with the land, and how to treat people. Aboriginal people rarely call their family members by name, instead they use relationship terms such as mother, sister, brother, aunt or cousin.
Genealogy is the study of families and their lineage, and many individuals are applying this science to the study of their own family ancestry. Once they use genealogy to find the link, they can then learn more about the lives of their ancestors, which allows them to learn more about themselves. Many individuals are quite amazed at what they find out about their lineage. They may find that they are descendants of kings, dukes, and historical figures. Others may find out that they are descendants of individuals who were poor and they find that their family overcame extreme adversity.
Families have many different ways they could be defined. I would describe my family as being blended. My brother has a different father than me, and he is still considered family. This aspect is important in my concept of family because even if I do not talk to them everyday, I still have this connection where they will support the decisions that I want to make even if it is not an opinion that everyone agrees with. On the contrary, there is definitely diversity by having a blended family, especially since they have been a part of most of my life.
“Family” is a hard word to create a concrete definition for. If one were to ask three random people on the street, it is likely they will receive three completely different answers to defining a family. The textbook definition of family according to the etymology dictionary is: “Origin in early 15c. “servants of a household” from Latin familia “family servants, domestics collectively, the servants in a household.” The traditional dictionary describes family in a more narrow fashion stating, “a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not.”
Personal Cultural Heritage Item Cultural heritage is what influences the values and fashion choices we adopt (Goddard, 2015). It is influences our family traditions and our family members. Most importantly, cultural heritage influences our zeitgeist or spirit of times that fits into our own history (Goddard, 2015). There are some people that take an interest in understanding their culture and their influences while others do not. The purpose of this assignment is to discuss my family’s cultural heritage.

According to Google family means, all the descendants of a common ancestor. As one can see, there are many different meanings to family. To me family means support, dysfunctional, love, and friendships. Family is the most important influence on a child’s life.
Family is characterized with common aspects such as parents, grandparents, and siblings but there are so many other ways to distinct family. The word family is commonly defined as a group of individuals that have the same ancestors, and gather for holidays and other special events. This particular definition is true in so many ways, but everyone goes through life with situations that are brought up that bring together or break apart families. When I think about the word family and my experiences I have gone through and I would consider family to have crazy moments, lots of laughter, and unconditional love. Family to me is getting everyone together and having a good time and acting crazy with your loved ones, making memories.
It does not need to be blood related in order to be a family. Family is home, they are the ones who gives you unconditional love. They are the people who comforts you towards difficulties in life.
