Can a person make a living from farming? Although it is not all about the money, there is money in farming, all depending on what people want to farm whether it is big money or a small amount of money. “We want real farmers or real men who will make good farmers down here in North Carolina, and there is plenty of real land for them to buy.” (6.3 ‘Eastern North Carolina for the Farmer). Farming in North Carolina is not as popular as it used to be; it can be a carrier, it can be hard, and there is land out there to be used, so we need to get new generation farmers in North Carolina to start farming this land.
Farming in North Carolina is not as popular as it used to be. There are farmers out there, but they are older generation farmers. There are not as many new generation farmers as there needs to be. In whichever part of North Carolina people want to be whether it is in Western North Carolina, Central North Carolina, or Eastern North Carolina, there is land. People need to be using this farmland because if no one does then the land is going to become house developments, shopping malls, stores, etc. It is a shame to see what the older generations worked so hard for to let it turn into something like that. The older generations did not have anything but their family and their farms, but they were happy. Although there are still some older generation farmers out there, they are getting older and they cannot do what they could do, so the land is going to do nothing until someone does something about it.
