In “Don’t Blame the Eater”, David Zinczenko sympathizes with those mothers. He argues that there are simply not enough alternatives to the thousands of fast food restaurants and that the lack of information about those alternatives further complicates things.
Food brings people together and it plays a major role in Southern culture. This is evident in Harper Lee’s Southern novel, To Kill A Mockingbird which is set during the Great Depression. Food is a main ingredient throughout the novel helping to move the plot along and teach lessons. Samuel Truett Cathy, the founder of Chick-fil-A, said it best, “Food is essential to life, therefore make it good”. In the 1920’s, America reached its highest standard of living. Despite this boom of prosperity, the changes in America from 1920 to 1945 were primarily detrimental. The United States began the 20th century on excess, but this excess eventually overflowed and left America high and dry.
Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser discusses how the American nation has been shaped and changed by fast food. The author takes something that is so American, fast food, and portrays to the reader the impact it has really had on American life and its culture. The author talks to multiple people who feel the negative impacts of the fast food industry and then goes more in depth about it. He relates life today to different time periods, such as the 1920s, great depression, and the industrial revolution. This book shows the read that in fact, history does repeat itself.
As World War II came to an end, the United States entered the 50s. This decade became a major influential time that brought many cultural and societal changes. Categories such as the economy, where a boom in new products increased, the technology world which incorporated new medicines and computers, entertainment when the television became popular and the overall lifestyles that Americans adapted to. In Margaret Visser’s essay, “The Rituals of Fast Food”, she explains the reason why customers enjoy going to fast food restaurants and how it adapt to customer’s needs. Some examples of the most loyal fast-food customers are people seeking convenience, travelers, and people who are drug addicts. First, most loyal customers are people seeking convenience. The reason why fast food restaurants are convenient because longer hours of being open, the prices are good , etc. As Visser said in her essay, “Convenient, innocent simplicity is what the technology, the ruthless politics, and the elaborate organization serve to the customer” (131).
The best part of school is lunchtime. Many children say it is their favorite subject. Most students also look forward to eating the delicious food given to them. Eating the food gives the students energy and fills them up until dinner. Students get excited to go to lunch and eat the most delicious food the cafeteria has to offer.
