Faux Friendship was published in December 6th 2009. And written by William Deresiewicz an American author, essayist and literary critic. Before being a well-known author William was an English teacher at Yale. The word faux meaning fake is describing how our friendships is becoming more fake from using the internet. Deresiewicz uses the words like robot to show how addicted we are with social media. Makes some very good points about how the internet has changed the way we look at our friendships. The prize should be given to Deresiewicz because he successfully persuaded me into taking a break from my phone and social media. Even though some of his points were a little over the top. He likes to use similes by comparing things to one another to give the reader a better connection to Facebook cons. He says, “Posting information is like pornography… a slick, impersonal exhibition. Exchanging stories is like making love.”(para.1) this has happened to most people then you would think. Who would think that pushing “post” would feel better than being with your mate? Deresiewicz wants his readers to take precaution when he says this to let readers know never get so wrapped up with social networks, so much that you are happier when you’re on it then spending time with your soulmate.
