In the rough times of today’s society, fear seems to be an emotion that all humans can relate to. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding he uses the topic of to draw to readers in and give them the ability to empathize with the characters. Also he portrays with explanations of the children’s fear, it brings out the inner savagery and killing of the kids can take over eventually leading them to cause a lot of chaos and destruction. While on the island, the amount of fear the boys show is the reason for a lot of conflicts to happen. The groups fear of the beast, the fear they will not get rescued off the island, and lastly the way Jack manipulates the other kids into joining him to kill. First off, while on the island Piggy has a fear that he cannot help but stress about, that being when he says that the group is never going to get rescued that showing they will all die on the island. “If you give up… what ud happen to me? He hates me. I dunno why. If I could do what he wanted- you’re all right, he respects you. Besides- you’d hit him.” (p.100). This quote develops how even Piggy knows that another kid on the island hates him… that being Jack and if Ralph wasn’t still chief Jack would ultimately hurt him. This further leads to Ralph losing a vote which then foreshadows Piggy’s death. Next, another way the kids expressed fear is when the signal fire burned out, leading to an argument that now no one will be there to rescue them leading them all stranded possibly dying on the island. “I've been watching the sea. There hasn't been the trace of a ship. Perhaps we'll never be rescued.”(Page 43). This proves that the kids after show there fear to the point when they all come together and then got the fire to start for when the next time a boat passed they had something to show on why they needed to get rescued and protection. Lastly, While the other kids are doing their own thing, Jack probably hunting for the beast and Piggy probably finding out ways to get rescued Simon came face to face with the pig head and he asked what he wanted. The response given from the pig head was that the beast was not real and they all needed to calm down before something bad and harmful happens. Here The pig head is telling Simon that he is alright and so is the group… but we already know how that is going to end, getting killed before sending the message across that the beast is not real. To summarize, Golding use of showing the kids fear of getting stranded on the island can lead to death well
