“Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes.” This quote is said by Peter Drucker. The more effort leaders put in the more effort they are going to get out from the people they are leading. The leader might be dis-liked, but being liked isn’t in the job description. Being a leader might not be that hard, but just because they are a leader doesn’t mean they are good. A good leader has many certain traits and qualities. Communication being one of them. A leader needs to be able to speak to everyone, since they are in charge. The best leader on the island was Ralph. Ralph was not only a good leader, but also intelligent. He was the person who found the conch shell. That conch shell soon became important when Ralph applied the rules that whoever has it has the power to speak. It worked most of the time, except when Jack got in the way and didn’t think he had to follow the rules. Ralph called the important meetings using that conch shell of power and authority. I look up to him very much especially in my high school career. He is my cross country coach and track coach, but I see him talking to the basketball coaches during practices. He also shows up at a few games during basketball season too. Coach Krock is an effective coach, not only because he pushes me to do my best but he is always there for me. In cross country after I have a bad race, he comes up and talks to me. He tells me the mistakes I made during the races, but then he tells me what I could have done better. At the end of those talks he says I got the one bad race for the season out of the way. In practices he corrects my running form every chance he gets. Although I get tired hearing it over and over again, I know he does that to get me to run better. Coach Krock is strong but during practices can sometimes be a little soft, if we get lucky he reduces the workout so it’s not as long. Coach Krock is not only there for me during season, but out of season as well. If I would ever need someone to talk to on the weekends or even during the week days, he is a good person that could help in minutes. He knows what to say to make all situations seem better. I wouldn’t be the runner or person I am today without his
