Fear is inherent in many Witch Hunts, especially the witch hunt of Salem in 1692. Like said previously fear spreads like fire. In the play “The Crucible” everyone was struck by fear. Fear influenced people to take extreme measures and act irrationally. Abigail Williams a character in the play had many fears. “My name is good in the village! I will not have it said my name is soiled” (Arthur, Act 1, pg.140)! Abigail feared about gaining a bad social status or being shunned for her act in the forest. She feared of losing John Proctor because she was in love with him; being he is married to Goody Proctor she accused her of witchcraft. She did this because when she accused the maid Tituba of witchcraft, Tituba was whipped and then placed in jail.
