The unconscious state of Will Hunting is scared and afraid to either let people in or let people go. He had a bunch of friends since his childhood, who he does not want to leave at any cost, even if Will had to risk his future. The friends he had were all undomesticated and wild young adults, who shared the same life as Will had. The influence of environment around him and company was a major reason he stayed untamed. Little did he know, to change his life for better he needed to leave his then-friends. According to Fraley & Shaver, attachment style is described as someone's patterns of expectation, needs, and social behavior in a relationship (Mikulincer & Shaver, 2007, pp. 25). Characteristics are the pattern of human beings social behavior and through this their attachment styles can be analyzed. There are three types of attachment styles. Anxious attachment style, Avoidant attachment style and Secure attachment style. By carefully examining Will’s characteristics, the researcher has found the tendency of Will’s attachment style in the movie Good Will Hunting is Avoidant Personality Style. In this section, researchers indicate the fact that Will’s childhood experiences with his primary caregivers are the reason for his attachment style as an adult. Will is an intelligent young man who does not want to share his deep feelings and emotions to the people around him. He is shown as a private individual. Will confronted the person who made his friend feel bad and said: “If you have problem with that, I mean we could just step outside. We could figure it out”. Will did not directly challenge the man to a fight, but he hinted it. Throughout his life, Will never truly felt like he was living; rather, his life was always followed by fear, fear of himself.
