PROTAGONIST - A protagonist s the main charcarcter that we can relate to, well that relatable character for gals is Samanthat Baker in Sixteen Candles, directed by John Hughes. At some point of our female lives, we will (at some point) crush on someone who 's probably way out of our league, and probably will do nothing about it. I say that it 's us girls who can relate to this movie because the protagonist is a girl, it doesn 't mean that guys won 't crush on people who are way out of their leagues as well, because they at, some point of their lives, probably do too. Samantha Baker is an awkward, moody teenager, who has a love/hate relationship with her family and is in love with a boy who seems completely unattainable and out of her league. This realistic portrayal of adolescence sets the film apart from many others in its genre because Samantha is nothing like the one-dimensional teen characters found in many movies.

With the medical procedure of abortion itself being perceived as problematic and condemned by many at this time, to be a woman doing these abortions it emphasizes a degree of independence, perseverance, and courage that are contrary to common perceptions of femininity and womanhood. In consideration to the many other women that are mentioned throughout the book, these traits are what makes Burns such a unique individual who is filled with confidence and determination. In comparison to the women that were mentioned in the prologue of the novel, such as Madeline Rand, it is clear that Burns has the glamour and drive that makes her a leader to begin with. Because of Will Hunting’s difficult upbringing, the way he communicates his emotions in his relationships are detrimental for himself and others, and conflict arises in his relationships due to his inability to express his emotions well. There is apparently some precident for worrying about Will that the audience does not know, so we take the characters’ word for it. He needs someone there to protect him, to shelter him. Will is also repeatedly referred to as “broken” or “unstable,” much of which was encouraged by Hannibal. When Hannibal and Jack first have dinner together in 1x02, they use the metaphor of a “broken pony” to describe Will.
During the film Will demonstrates anger as well as irritability in a short tempered manner. In a particular scene, Will becomes overwhelmed with anger after encountering an old classmate who bullied him in preschool. Will’s character did not change in the movie; however, he was liked by the audience because he was “eye-candy” (“The Last Song”). Even the father was likable in the movie.
