This organization is working with 200 food banks and is feeding over 12 million children and 7 million seniors (Our par. 5). 23% of the children in the United States are living in poverty, and 40% of the children attending a public school applies for free or reduced lunch. These children not only face problems with not being fed but also worry about housing security, finding/obtaining resources for school, safety, access to medical care or dental care, fulfilling expectations of teachers and other superiors, and funding college.

On average, a worker making minimum wage will only receive about $14,500 per year. (Daniel par.1). With having to pay for housing, groceries, clothing, and day care services this a lot to pay for with a low income. As the costs of basic needs (food, housing, etc) inflate, it would be expected that the minimum wage would follow, however, that is not the case. With expenses increasing, how can the government expect that the people can afford it when they are not making enough?
The average cost of a center-based daycare facility is $11,666 per year. Housing expenses include heating, water, electric, and insurance, and cost, on average, around $6,844 per year. What about groceries? What is the average for that? And where are you getting these numbers? Cite them! The cost of living is much too expensive.
Overall the minimum wage needs to be increased. This could have many benefits to it; it will bring numerous people out of poverty, and they will not have to rely on government assistance. ( Daniel par.6 ). When a family is bringing in more income they are able to spend more money which will help businesses and the economy ( Daniel par.6).
