Hunger is a monumental problem that is taking place in the United States every single day. Over 13 million American children are currently going through life without consuming enough food to be healthy. Not having enough to eat can interfere with a child’s chance to grow up the way that they should. The Feeding America Organization is trying to figure out the answer to this problem of hunger in the United States. People should consider donating or volunteering with Feeding America because their organization is doing the most to help. They are currently feeding 12 million of America’s underfed children on a regular basis, and can be trusted to utilize your donation in the best ways possible.

They are mainly known for their food banks, but they do a lot more than just that to reach the people in need. They have a backpack program at schools to make sure kids have food on the weekends. They have a service called Kids Cafe that is a safe place for kids to hang out with their friends after school and have easy access to food. Feeding America also has multiple programs in the summer to help feed hungry children even when they are not in schools. Their goal is for there never to be a time when a child absolutely cannot attain food. The Feeding America organization is working hard to show the United States how to be more responsible and efficient with it’s food. America wastes an estimated 70 billion pounds of food waste in America each year (FeedingAmerica.org). That is an outrageously large number. Far too large top be reasonable in todays world of innovation. Feeding America works to divert about 2 billion pounds of that waste per year from the landfills to the people who can really benefit from it. This is obviously a much more responsible use of that food. If we just gave some of our money, or spent some time volunteering with them, maybe we could help them make a larger dent in that 70 billion pounds of wasted
