The Samaritan’s Purse is a charity organization that specializes in evangelism. Evangelism is trying to share the gospel with as many people as possible in hopes of bringing people close to Jesus Christ. Each year they host Operation Christmas Child. The main goal of this program is to show children who are severely impoverished the gift of salvation. The people over at Samaritan’s Purse use an interesting method to reach their goal. They bring the children in foreign countries nice gifts and a booklet designed to help lead children to Christ. They provide the booklets, but they call upon those who are willing to help provide the gifts. It is wildly popular. It is not required to decorate a box, but if a box is wrapped it must have a removable lid. This way the package may be checked without unwrapping the present. After a container is chosen, it is time to pick out the gifts. When planning a gift, participants have six groups to choose from to donate to. They may choose a girl age 2-4, a girl age 5-9, a girl age 10-14, a boy age 2-4, a boy age 5-9, or a boy age 10-14. With a choice in mind, the donators flood stores. Candy of all different colors, flavors, and shapes are picked out. Gorgeously designed dolls, sparkly hair clips, or cuddly stuffed animals might be chosen for a sweet little girl. Balls of different sizes or small cars of bright colors might be selected for a kind little boy. Some of the most appreciated gifts are basic everyday items. Hygiene items such as toothbrushes and combs add a new layer of luxury to their lives. Socks and sunglasses are worn with unbelievable pleasure. Pencils and paper are the ultimate find because a better education means a chance for a better future. Oftentimes it can be a struggle to try to fit in all the items in one box, so sometimes people carry their box with them to the store to figure out how much room is left inside the container.
