The meeting was called to order at 2:30pm by Arlene Malone, Chief Executive Officer. The opening prayer was given by H. Blondell Malone. Minutes from the previous Board of Directors Meeting were read by Robyn Odom, Secretary, and seconded by attendees. Application submission for R-E-A-D's 501(c)(3) status is at a standstill until an actual Chief Financial Officer is either self-appointed or unanimously voted on by existing Board Members. Initially, Ruth Giles-Summers nominated her son, Brandon Summers, Jr., for the position by stating his interest in having an active role but to no avail; communication has been nonexistent. We briefly touched on The Board of Directors Members' needs and expectations as it pertains to "Non-Profit" Organizations: regularly attending meetings as well as volunteer commitments; in addition to spreading the word throughout Hampton Roads about R-E-A-D to garner financial backing as well as partnerships. The Car Wash was absolutely gut-wrenching and a major disappointment! I could not believe that Tynisha Young was the only young lady who came out and washed cars squeaky clean. Cosaundra and Robyn suggested to make each and every participant responsible for preselling a minimum of ten $20 vouchers. To guarantee 100% participation, we will incentivize with a $50 MacArthur Mall Gift Card to the member with the highest amount of vouchers $old . James Brumsey, Jr. has already agreed to sponsor a Krispy Kreme Doughnut Fundraiser. Cosaundra also wanted the young ladies to tap into their areas of expertise for other creative fundraising ideas/opportunities. The anniversary souvenir will be a commemorative purple ink pen with butterfly logo and R-E-A-D encrusted in white along with Brenda Johnson's chocolate butterflies.
