Female Serial Killer: Aileen Carol Wuornos

Aileen Carol Wuornos, also known as Monster, was a convicted female serial killer. She was convicted with multiple murder charges, all of which she pleaded guilty to, except the killing of Richard Mallory. Claiming Mallory had violently raped her, Wuornos suggested she was merely defending herself when she shot Mallory. Unfortunately, the jury did not find her statement credible, and indicted her. On October 9th, 2002, Wuornos was executed by lethal injection. Wuornos became infamous shortly after, and as I previously stated, a movie had been produced about Wuornos’ life and tragedy. From the moment she was born, on February 29, 1956, Wuornos was already socially handicapped. Although there are various stories as to the conditions of Wuornos’ childhood, many sources tend to document her development as a promiscuous child. Prior to her birth, her parents, Diane and Leo Wuornos, had a violent relationship. Her father was convicted for child molestation, and subsequently suicided in jail. It is rumored her father may have suffered from schizophrenia. Due to his untimely death, Aileen never met her father. It is not wonder Aileen developed father issues, and constantly sought out men to fill the void she had. The marriage was short-lived as Wuornos was known to physical abuse her husband. This is not surprising as Wuornos grew up in a lifestyle of abuse, and violence is the only way she knows to vent out her frustrations. Wuornos did not develop sufficient interpersonal skills growing up, and this is evident in her inability to maintain a long-lasting and meaningful relationship. Before beginning a killing spree, Wuornos had already been arrested for disorderly conduct, driving under intoxication, and robbery.
