We are all told that the people around us affect who we are. In the 3 text,” The House on Mango Street”, “I'm Nobody Who Are You?”, and “Abuela Invents the Zero '' the authors created characters that feel like they’re nobodys and had their identity snatched from them because of their environment, each text expresses this idea through the use of figurative language and the people around them.
In the text,” I’m Nobody Who Are You”, by Emily Dickinson the girl/boy in the poem actually finds that having a social identity is not important because they think publicity is not as important as anonymity. The author states,” How public - like a Frog -” which implies that people who are popular get their popularity from just talking nonsense, like a frog croaking. This is a type of metaphor used in the poem to compare humans to frogs. The character thinks that people only get popular because they remind everyone of their presence through the use of loud croaks.

In the text the author states,”…Holding her hands over her head as if she was praying.” In the context of this situation, she was lost and didn’t have anyone to help her which made her embarrassed and feel like she wasn’t worth anything. The author adds in the simile,”as if she were praying” because she was lost in a church which was a really nice addon. She could also have been praying for someone to help
