b. Civilization is a way of life which evolved the time people starter to develop urban settlements. The earliest civilizations developed when the rise of agriculture allowed people to have additional food and economic stability. Agricultural populations advanced and some people no longer had to practice farming at all. They involved their selves in other activities such as domestication of plants and animals, and pottery. Civilizations first appeared in Mesopotamia, in what is now Iraq, then followed by Egypt. Civilizations flourished in the Indus Valley by 2500 BC, in China by 1500 BC and in Central America, what is now Mexico, by 1200 BC. Civilizations developed on every continent except Antarctica (Society, 2010).

If we cannot establish our identity first, it is near impossible that we can create a united Filipino nation. In today's world, we can clearly see that our own identity as Filipinos is slowly degrading. Our way of life is highly influenced by Western countries and other Asian countries as well. Our "culture" today is a mixture of different cultures. Some of the kids today don't even know how to speak our very own language because at a very young age, they were already taught to speak in English. I really have no problem with that because it is essential to learn this language especially with the emerging globalization. But we should not put aside our own culture just because we want to compete globally. Another thing is the different political views of the people. With the upcoming election, we can already see the great diversity among the people. Different views create conflict. And with this, how can we achieve unity? Despite the diversity and differences, we have been functioning as a nation for years now. There is a call for unity. But right now, it is nowhere near possible. First, we must establish who we are as a nation --- who we are as a people. It is only then that we can identify with one another and create a unified
