Living a life as a transgender is not an easy life. Every day they are facing the discrimination in their communities. Boys Don’t Cry is one of the fantastic movies which displays the trans gender’s enormous problems in the society. This movie based on a true story of a transgender who was tragically raped and murdered. Brandon is a male transgender who moved to Nebraska to start a new life as a male. He falls in love with a girl (Lana) who is open minded and does not treat him as an alien. Unfortunately, when his so-called friends figure out about his gender, they reaction was fear and disgust. Thus, two friends drag him to isolate location and rape him. He could successfully scape and later report the assault to police but those guys find him and kill him while they were drunk. Presenting the relationship between power, violence and knowledge is one of the strong points of this movie. The movie starts with Brandon’s gloomy gaze into the camera asking us to follow him and experience his pain. From the very beginning of the film, Brandon makes it clear that he is a male although the other people try to tell him that he is a “dyke”. They are discriminating against Brandon because of their own idea about him. In nowadays society, sadly masculinity is associate with violence. They abused and assaulted Brandon because they wanted to enforce him by their masculinity to accept the female role. Obviously, Brandon sexuality is a threat to the masculinity world and man position in their society and group, thus, they use gendered violence to depict their control and power over women.
