During World War I, over 1 million Armenians died at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. In the documentary, The Armenian Genocide, there is an extremely in depth examination off what happened during these times and why, in what has been called one of the greatest untold stories of the twentieth century. To this day in 2016, the country of Turkey, which was once the Ottoman Empire during World War I, denies to define the killing of the Armenians in Turkey in 1915 as genocide. Well, with this information at hand, one might ask, what is the definition of genocide, and what does genocide consist of? Genocide can be defined as, the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. Taking all of this into consideration, I personally believe that the actions of the Turks in 1915 is genocide, and I also believe that the Armenian’s as a people should be compensated for their ancestor’s misery. …show more content…

After this operation failed, the Ottomans blamed the defeat on the Armenians. This hatred for Armenians, soon turned into violence, and Armenians started dying one by one at the hands of the Turks. As stated in the documentary, Armenian intellectual and spiritual elite were the first ones to be killed. The idea behind this is, if you take out the intellectuals and spiritual leaders of a group, the poor, uneducated, and unorganized will die much easier, since they no longer have leaders to look up to or ask for help/refuge.
