Enchanted uses humour and references from other films to capture modern audiences.
The film ‘Enchanted’ directed by Kevin Lima uses different fairy tales to create a modern spin on a classic. The humor is an important part of the film and cleverly disguises the moral of the story. I also found that the different fairy tale references added to the movie whilst capturing a modern audience.

‘Enchanted’ is set in New York City a place where there are no happy endings. But can Giselle’s innocence, charm and goodness survive in modern life? The witty dialogue helps turn Giselle and Robert’s views and actions of New York into highly comical scenes. When Giselle and Robert arrive you can see that they don’t fit in with their eccentric costumes and even the citizens of New York comment on it. If you look closely at ‘Enchanted’ there are thousands of references from older,classic films. Some of the references are very obvious such as: the poison apples from Snow White and Narissa turning into a dragon similar to Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. Whilst other references are hard to find: when Giselle pulls the sword out of the floor just like Arthur does in ‘the sword in the stone’. The references help create a new franchise whist reviving the older ones. In fact composer Alan Menkin said ‘ Basically, it’s Disney kind of deconstructing and reconstructing in the same piece. In one sense, the cynics are brought into this and go ok I get the joke and on the other hand it’s got a heart to it. My hope is that it will really enlist the audience in knowing that they’re involved in’. I agree with Alan Menkin and when I was watching ‘Enchanted’ I found so many references it would take me four pages just to write them
