“Innocence is what he knows, beauty is what she sees.” -In the words of Edward Scissorhands. The well-respected and director Tim Burton is always admired for his distinctive yet astonishing films. He uses many cinematic techniques in one of his most popular films, Edward Scissorhands, but a wide variety he uses would be some such as framing/angles, music/sound and lighting. In Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton uses framing/angles as emphasis in the fulfillment of one certain scene. He uses a long shot to show the vulnerability of the character. He uses different lighting to display different moods to set the scene. In the same film, Edward Scissorhands, he uses a variety of lighting but in this particular shot he uses high key lighting to show that it is flooded with light, creating a bright and open looking scene. When the camera shows Peg’s neighborhood, it looks all happy and colorful but in reality the neighborhood isn’t all that great. The people in her community are unpleasant and they don’t accept others very well and they approach people with disrespect. Peg’s so called friends are always gossiping and they are also rude. On the other hand, Tim Burton uses low key lighting which is when the scene is flooded with shadows and darkness, creating suspense or suspicion. When Peg shows up to Edward Scissorhands mansion the whole audience is probably cringing in fear telling her to not go in because of the way it looks. Edward is a pretty intimidating character to draw near with but he is the opposite of what some people would think he is, he is actually gentle and friendly.
