As technology advances, so does the social networks and nowadays with the multiple problems with security around them, we should be extra careful about our personal information. Wherever if it is the Facebook’s security problem or the possible FBI agent behind our screen, the truth is that our personal information is constantly on risk. Systems have evolved so much that it is hard to even know if just by saying in which country you live; the computer automatically will start looking for you. In 2017 it was registered that 2.7 billion of people used one or two types of social networks. To understand more about social media, we should first comprehend its meaning. According to the Merriam- Webster Dictionary, social media is defined as “forms of electronic communication such as websites for social networking through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other variety content”. This means than more than 2 billion of people share information between them daily. So far you may think there is no problem, this is just billions of people communicating with each other without any dangers. But you are wrong. Every single social network has a terms and conditions part where you can read what you accept and agree to, the moment you join the network. Just recently there was a controversial and historical case regarding the security of one of the biggest and more powerful social networks. The creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, had to testify in front of the U.S.A. due to security problem involving the personal information of more than 80 million of users. A company called “Cambridge Analytica” had the access to this people´s accounts without them giving their consent. This shows that not even the owner of one of the biggest socials networks entirely knows what is happening with their user’s information.
