People in this day and time are not as knowledgeable, as they should be, when it comes down to sex and their sexual health. What is sexual health? We must take time to learn and talk about this important topic as young adults. According to ASHA, sexual health is the ability to embrace and enjoy our sexuality throughout our lives (ASHA, Understanding Sexual Health , 2014). Your body is like your brand new car—As well and clean you keep your car, you should keep your body as well and clean also. As much time you spend on your car to make sure it’s clean how you want it, that’s how much time you should spend on your body to keep it cleaned how you should HAVE it. With that being said, the male and female body is very different in some ways. The female reproductive system is a series of openings for intake and output through tubes and passages. We all know what STDs and HIV is and what they can do to you and how they spread. But what we don’t know is that it can affect the person sitting on the right of you and the person sitting on the left of you. Anybody of all ages has a risk of getting an STD, or HIV, or any type of infection. Most of these diseases can harm you for the rest of your life, and even lead you to death. 20 million new cases of STDs and STIs are happening each year between the ages of 15-24. We as young adults, especially being that it’s our age that has the more cases, aren’t taking care of ourselves properly. We think sex is just sex and we feel like we can do it anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. It’s all fun and games till the diseases affect you. The difference between STDs and STIs is that, STDs are spread by sexual contact but do not necessarily carry symptoms with it. STIs can be spread by sexual contact but other physical contacts, such as the contact with someone’s saliva, etc. STIs do carry symptoms and some can be treated.
