“A comparison of character design in Final fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XIII” This essay presents an analysis between the characters design of three different installments of Final Fantasy series. The reason I chose these games is because I have played them all. In addition, I am a big fan of this series. I will start by introducing each game and their characters, and I’ll be focusing on the information provided by the game for the characters and how players can use them in order to maximize the character combat potential in the game. Distinguishing characteristics between the protagonist characters In the 3 games: Cloud: (Final Fantasy VII) Cloud specializes in physical strength, this is something that can be inferred from looking at his character appearance, he is always holding to a huge sword. With addition to being able to cast magic spells as well, his specialty is landing powerful physical attacks with his huge sword, he also has the most powerful special ability in the game (among all characters) called “Omnislash” which allows him to inflict huge area of effect damage on his enemies. Tidus: (Final Fantasy X) Tidus best suitable weapon is sword and a shield, in the beginning of sphere grid (attribute leveling mechanic in the game), he has decent stats of strength, defense and HP, but he has a very high Accuracy and Agility. His initial magic attributes are weak with low MP, making close combat his favorite style. Distinguishing characteristics between other characters in the 3 games: Snow: (Final Fantasy XIII): Snow has the “tank” role right from the start, a tank is someone that attracts the enemy’s attention to protect his allies. In the long run, he has the potential to achieve the highest HP of any other character in the game. With little knowledge in other combat specialties, going for the tank (sentinel) role is the way to go with this character. Hope: (Final Fantasy XII) In Final Fantasy XIII, hope has the highest base magic stats in the game.
