Final Voice Journal Alvan Le I remember when I started voice class, I had no expectations. I knew we weren’t going to be singing, but I wasn’t aware of the work we would do. Surprisingly, the class changed my life. I have learned so much over the semester about vocal production, proper care and exercises for the voice. In fact, the way I treat and use my voice will never be the same. Originally, all I knew about the voice was that there was a vibration in my body that produced sounds. However, we learned that there is so much more to it. Dawn taught us about all the parts that are involved in producing our voice and how they function. This highlighted the idea that we habitually combine body parts to produce our voice, but they are supposed to work interdependently of each other. Furthermore, this lesson taught me about where everything was exactly; for example, I didn’t know the tongue extend down toward the jaw. Therefore, this lesson of the anatomy of our voice helped me to get a better understand of what we were working with. …show more content…

I was never taught about it. I remember at the beginning of the semester we were taught about our vocal problems being habitual and natural. In fact, we were taught that our voices were born free. This lesson alone showed me that there is always work to be done on our voices. I always thought the tension I held in my tongue and my shallow breathe was going to be a problem I would just have to live with. I’m glad I was wrong. This class has opened the doors for a life time of vocal work. Furthermore, we were taught about the dos and don’ts with our voice. I was amazed by how poorly I was treating me voice. At least I am now able to correct my negligent behaviour. As a result of learning about proper vocal care, I will be able to sustain and improve my actor
