Emma Breidenbach Prof. Weatherill English 1021 March 1, 2023 Constitution Essay First Amendment in Oceania Essay In George Orwell’s 1984, Oceania lacks so many freedoms from the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution, that even on, such as Amendment One, the part about Freedom of Speech, would help the economy of Oceania so much. In Oceania, there are no freedoms to the Party members at all, however, the government believes that the Proles are not smart enough to be an issue to the wellness of the Party, that they allow the Proles to have most freedoms. The Proles are lower class citizens of Oceania, and they represent the “uninvolved in politics” people of the real world that we live in today. What I mean by this is that if the people of Oceania, especially the Outer Party, had the Freedom of Speech that we have in our First Amendment, they could speak up and inform the Proles about what is actually happening in the Party, and they could inform them of the lies they are being fed. You might being thinking the same thing I am, could informing the Proles on what is actually happening with their government cause a rebellion against Big Brother? I believe so, and I think it would also bring a lot more good things to Oceania if a rebellion had started. From what is happening now with the government now, there are no freedoms whatsoever for the Outer Party especially, except for the basic human needs to live. However, the Proles have more freedoms due to the fact that they don’t know any better, but if they did know better, they might change their minds and side with the Outer Party in a rebellion against the Inner …show more content…

This Amendment would help with so much for everyone in the book. As of now, no one in the Outer Party is allowed to talk about anything at all, and are under tight security all the time. They are not able to talk, or even think about how horrible the world that they’re living in really is. If they do, they would be killed or tortured in some way. In this world, they are not even allowed to petition against the government to make for a better world. People of Oceania can’t even think for themselves without getting hurt or hurting someone else, and can’t live their lives in any way that they would like. They aren’t able to pay for anything, get married to anyone you want to, or able to talk to anyone about anything. I believe that if Oceania had the First Amendment in place, it could help with a lot of these
