A land with no freedom of speech is a mental prison. They are withheld to only silent personal thoughts. The primitive urge to express yourself is constantly suppressed. North Koreans are forced to follow a singular suit under what can be perceived as martial law. Many Americans would ask why the people of North Korea don’t fight for their rights? This is because they are controlled using cult like methods, fear, and violence. These high stake circumstances often drive people that live in places like North Korea to violent rebellion. This proves to how important and powerful free speech is, without it entire communities can crumble. South Koreans live a completely different life to that of their neighbors. The first amendment is protected in South Korea. Although if it is found out that you have fled to South Korea, Kim Jong Un will still punish your family, thus once again giving political, social, and religious freedom consequence. South Koreans have been among the first to take action against North Korea’s policy. South Koreans will send over USB sticks with modern western entertainment, real world news, and other unfiltered material. For many North Koreans this will be the first time they digest substance that is not under the Kim Jong Un regime.
