The book 5.41, Randy Turner and John Hacker, is a story of a great devastation that hit the town of Joplin, Missouri on the 22nd of May 2011, where humanity saw the destructive tornado that hit their town, and people lost a large number of townspeople. It was the place of a great amount of people who survived the most catastrophic tornado they had seen in their lifetime. The President of the United States, the Governor of Missouri, a Catholic priest and a Methodist minister gave speeches to the people of Joplin after the tornado was struck about a week later, and what did they need to hear from them that people of Joplin had to strive to help their neighbours b looking out to each other, they had to have faith in themselves that were strong
Separate from the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland, the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland is an independent organization designed to protect patient rights. It is not associated with the 2003 Act. The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland looks for deficiencies in overall patient care and issues that arise due to negligence on the part of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland. It also publishes an annual report on the results of the 2003 Act (Hothersall, 2008, p. 52) The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 updated both previous acts with the idea of further protecting the patient.
In 2012 Ken Burns produced The Central Park Five which narrates the experiences of five teenage boys who were wrongly convicted of the violent rape of a young woman in New York City’s Central Park in April of 1989. Burns builds his thesis, through interviews with various individuals such as former Mayor Koch, journalists from the 80’s and 90’s, historians, defense lawyers, Juror #3, and, of course, the five boys, now men, wrongly imprisoned. An elderly person may choose to stay in their own homes instead of a residential care home while seeking help and support from others,however this can lead to potential opportunities for abuse happening to the person who Is being looked after. When an individual is getting support at home by a carer, the individual being cared for is vulnerable and defenseless and therefor this makes them a target for abuse,another example is abuse by strangers,when an elderly person lives alone they are at risk of people calling at the door and then gaining access to their homes,they may steal items from them or mistreat them or cause intimidation. A person who is vulnerable and living alone are at risk of physical and sexual because there is no one there to stop this abuse from happening.
At Adult Protective Services majority of our work involves investigation of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. At Adult Protective Services our job is to protect the vulnerable elderly population, as well as the population that have disabilities. “Only APS is statutorily authorized and responsible for investigating elder and vulnerable adult abuse and taking steps to protect the victims, and it is generally only APS that helps the most frail and incapacitated older persons”(Quin, 2012, p.68). His story is told starting in WWII when he is captured as a German Prisoner of War and taken to a slaughterhouse. Billy witnesses first hand the violence of the war when he as his fellow prisoners are forced to clean up the aftermath of the Dresden firebombing. Once returning back to New York, Billy forgets about all the events that occurred during the war, only being able to recall vague details. An affective abuse policy increasing elderly protection services is immensely needed. The public should also be informed about elderly abuse, and the individuals who commit the crime of abusing the elderly should have stricter punishments. Safeguarding is protecting people's health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. Abuse comes in many forms, for example, physical, sexual, verbal, financial, emotional, discriminatory abuse and neglect and working in substance misuse it is important for me to protect individuals against safeguarding issues, such as blood borne viruses, drug awareness, drug dealing, sex working, domestic violence, neglect to others and self-neglect. I have worked with vulnerable adults, who are or may be in need of community care services due to mental or other disability, age or illness, and who are or may be unable to take care of themselves, or unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation. Safeguarding adults involves protecting their rights to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. I have worked in partnership to prevent the risk of abuse or neglect and stopped it from happening.

In the UK, over five hundred thousand abuse against elderly people occurred each year. These abuses can occur anywhere, including in someone own home, residential home or hospital. Both older men and women can be at risk of abuse, though the majority of victims are women over the age of 70’s. There are five common types of abuse; physical, psychological, financial, sexual abuse and neglect. Where does elderly abuse to place Elder abuse tends to take place where the senior lives: most often in the home where abusers are often adult children, other family members such as grandchildren, or spouses/partners of elders.
