When testing how a flame retardant material affects the burning rate of a block with house paint on it is important to know the statistics behind the application. Many houses catch fire and if they had fire resistant paint then it would be less likely for any real damage to occur. In 2013, 369,500 houses caught fire in the US. This cost America 2,755 lives and injured 12,200 more from these fires. Not only human lives were lost but 6.8 billion dollars were lost in damages.
