After WWI, while Europe countries in reparation from war, America experienced huge economic expansion, which made America the richest country in the world. That period commonly known as the roaring twenties. One of the biggest changes in the society the role in women. Before war, women barely have rights, not even mention jobs, however, during war, women work for the army supplies or nurse. The result of that is women have excess money from continuously working, which led to the appearance of flapper.
Flappers defined as certain type of women in the United States in the 1920's, also known for their unconventional style and behavior. Farmer, African American and low wage earners were suffering from the roaring twenties. Overproduction by using machines to farm directly led to price falling. At the same time, farmer cannot afford machines because prices of machines highly increased; also there were area that did not provide electricity. As a result farmers did not get benefit from economic boom. Most African Americans worked for lowest wages not to mention majority of them lost their job in 1920s. “ ‘Rent parties’ were common on Saturday nights, to raise money to pay the landlord on Sunday”(BBC Bitesize). Low wages earner mostly were unskilled worker, there were still thousands of people did not get employed. Ironically, some of people made a lots of money is not because they are working, they had money because they sold alcohol illegally due to prohibition. Prohibition era made Speakeasies became the most popular place to go for entertainment. In another words, working illegally became very hard especially to African Americans and unskilled
