The poem makes extensive use of onomatopoeia, assonance, alliteration, and simile. First off, the word "screech" is used in an onomatopoeic sense, mimicking the sound of a loud, harsh noise. The letter "s" is then utilized as an alliterative device in "Swooped slowly across," "low-flying flights," where the letter "f" is repeated, and lastly "Out over," which employs the letter "o" as its final alliterative device. Furthermore, the letter "c" is utilized as a consonant device in "cucumber-cool" and "slowly across" where the letter "s" is the consonant that is repeated. Finally, the simile "rose in the air like a movieland magic carpet" is another example of utilizing something to describe a relationship between two things. The speaker conveys an attitude of enjoying the roller coaster ride and the magical miracle that occurs when participants board them, “like a movie-land and magical
