Flowers for Algernon When there is a book that has a movie adaptation usually there is differences between the two. In Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes there were a lot of differences between the book and the movie. There were many differences between the two like Charlie’s relationships, the date it takes place, where he works, and absence of characters. One thing I noticed in the movie that was different in the book is where Charlie works. In the book Charlie works at Donegan's Plastic Box Company but in the movie Charlie works at Donner’s Bakery. I didn't really see the point in this change because I don't think it made much difference in the story. In the book Charlie went to dinner with Miss Kinnian and in the movie that never happened. In the book Charlie had romantic feelings for Miss Kinnian but they never did anything but in the movie they did. Also in the book Miss Kinnian never went to visit Charlie in the hospital but in the movie she did. I think they made these changes because they wanted to make their relationship stronger in the movie. Another change that I noticed was that Dr. Nemur was not in the movie. Dr. Nemur was the doctor that was always mean to Charlie. I think the reason they didn't include this character is because maybe the didn't want a character in the movie that was always mean to Charlie. They might have also thought that Dr. Numer wasn't important enough to include in the film. I think they should have included him in the movie because he seemed like too much of an important character to not include. Flowers for Algernon was a good book and a good movie. The differences didn't really affect the quality of the film. I think some of the differences ware good and some of them were bad. Another difference that I didn't include is that the book takes place in the 60’s and the movie takes place in the 80’s. Overall, the book and the movie were very
