There are many aspects to the culture of any country, and a very important one is food. Whether it is a group of friends at a social gathering or a small family at the dinner table, food and drinks bring people together. Moreover, the variety of food in a country helps make it stand out from others. Guatemala is a prime example of this due to its great variety of foods and drinks.
First of all, there is a great variety of food in the Guatemalan diet. One staple food is corn, which can be eaten in the form of other dishes such as tortillas. Black beans, rice, eggs, and cheese are also frequently consumed. In particular, black beans can be mashed, fried, or eaten without alteration. First, of all, Guatemala is known for its coffee. It is usually not strong and served with sugar and milk. There are also many delicious fruit smoothies called licuados, which come in many flavors. The fresh fruit juices are very refreshing, which can be accompanied by fresh concentrate mix, water, or milk. A very popular beer is Gallo, which means rooster in Spanish. It is considered a national drink and a medium-strength lager. Other forms of alcohol for harder drinkers are Quetzalteca, Venado, Zacapa Centenario, aguardiente, and chicha. In particular, the main ingredient of chicha can be apple, cherry, sugarcane, peach, apricot, quince, and more. Zacapa Centenario has even won international awards.
Certainly, food is an important aspect of Guatemala’s culture; its variety of foods and drinks help make its culture unique, as well as bring both its dwellers and visitors together. With its beans, eggs, rice, meat, fruit juices, alcohol, and more, Guatemala is undoubtedly a great place to go and try something new, thus making it a great place to visit
