For generations news had an effect on what people knew. Food news is one of the most well-known disciplines since it has a great impact on people. It causes people to add types of food and eliminate other types from their life just because the news claimed so. This shows how news can affect people. In the article, “Food News Can Make You Dizzy, So Know What to Swallow” which was published in 2012. Then she sates how does news, magazines, TV, and newspapers have an impact on Americans and their diet. She then talked about the personal health and how listening to the news can affect that health. She says that all the answer in this is to stop worrying about what the news states and start eating according to a healthy plan which depends on the food pyramid. Kulman then talks about a study done about fiber and its effect against colon cancer. Throughout the experiment the author talks about many theories regarding fiber and its effect in against colon cancer which were conducted in labs by scientists, and how by time those theories were proved to be untrue. She then tells us that the danger is not present in the study itself but it's found when the correlations between the scientist and the reporter slide into the cause and effect. Then the author gives another example which was about tofu and its impact on the brain. She then states that as a conclusion to the studies she provided people need to decide how seriously they should consider such studies. Further the author recognizes that despite all the back and forth, science does make a great progress and has a significant role in the way we live. As shown in the article when she said that the main part of nutrition and eating routine took after by the Americans is gotten from the news they get from TV , magazines and newspapers (Kulman, 2012, p. 194).Which is considered hasty generalization. Kulman's article is well organized, the article is argumentative since she presented an argument regarding news and its effect on people's food choices. Kulman provided a sufficient amount of evidences to support her argument. For example the author gave us an expert's opinion to support her argument about whether cereal fiber has an effect on cancer. According to Tim Byers, "There were those who felt that it wasn't clear whether it was cereal fiber per se that was responsible" (as cited in Kulman, 2012, p.196). Although Kulman used the evidences sufficiently to support her arguments , yet she over relied on some strategies such as studies, statics and mostly experts opinions. Her over reliance on strategies and using them on a large scale made this article reflect studies rather than her own argument. On the other hand, the author's language was clear in this article, and the key terms, news and food, were clearly defined.
