Food Service Interview Paper

The purpose of this assignment was to explore careers in the food service and food industry by conducting an interview with the person that works in these areas. I selected Gloria Harwerth to interview. Mrs. Harwerth is the food service supervisor at Saint Luke Catholic School. Since this is a small private school that has a few students from PK3 grade through eighth grades, she also holds some basics Administrative Assistant functions in the school. Even though, administrative knowledge is very applicable and importance in this type of job, it is her years of experience in food service that made Mrs. Harwerth qualified for this position. As we continue talking about her career, she stated that she had always been interested in the food service field. However, she never thought that she would get a job in this field with her Business Administrate degree. The part of her job that she liked the most it is the fact that she is helping improve healthy eating in the child population. Mrs. Harwerth stated that their menu offers a daily variety of vegetables and fruits to the students, and she also mentioned that she has seen an increasing consumption of those items in the past years. She also commented that she really likes her employees and the way they work as a team, which according to Mrs. Harwerth it makes her job easier. In contrast, the part of her job that she likes least is when she has to negotiate price with some vendors because since Saint Luke Catholic Church it is a small school they do not need to buy products in a large quantity, and most of the vendors only sell in large quantity. Also, she commented that she does not like the fact when she needs to reject some products because it usually generates more work for her and it also affect the menu that she already has for that
