Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet During World War II

World War II began during September 1939 under the control of Adolf Hitler. My group thought that this was a fairly suitable time period for the story of Romeo and Juliet. During the war, the Nazi Germany was persecuting the Jews because they “were an inferior race, and an alien threat to German racial purity and community” (History 1). In addition, we narrowed down the time the play took place to the event of the Holocaust. Juliet could possibly be a Nazi and Romeo could be a Jew. This creates the similar theme of “forbidden love” as it is in the plot.
